Entrevista: Cruachan

Polêmico Rock – Olá, é um prazer estar aqui entrevistando um dos pioneiros do Celtic/Folk Metal. Vocês estão entusiasmados com o show no Brasil?

Keith F. Faith – Sim, nós estamos esperando muito por isto. Nós sempre quisemos tocar pelo Brasil e outros países Latino Americanos, então para isso estar realmente acontecendo é um verdadeiro sonho para gente. Devido a muitos outros diferentes fatores, nós não podemos excursionar tanto quanto outras bandas da cena e com isso, muitos dos nossos fãs ao redor do mundo acabam perdendo a chance de nos ver. Finalmente, nós poderemos suprir os nossos fãs brasileiros que estiveram sem nos ver por todos esses anos. Nós daremos um belo show para eles, e uma bela festa também.

Polêmico Rock – De onde vem toda inspiração para as canções, para o instrumental, e as roupas?

Keith F. Faith – Crescemos na Irlanda, então estamos imersos na nossa cultura. Esta tudo a nossa volta – isso é tudo muito normal, aliás, talvez não as roupas (risos) – A inspiração para as canções são provenientes da mitologia e cultura Irlandesa. Eu tenho cantado mais sobre coisas recentes, mas sempre terei aspectos mitológicos em nossas canções também.

Polêmico Rock – O Cruachan começou sua carreira com muitas influências de Black Metal. Com o tempo, se tornou uma das melhores bandas de Celtic/Folk Metal, mas eu ainda sinto muita agressão nas canções do Cruachan, e nos vocais. Então, você pode me dizer, como isso aconteceu? Este sempre foi o intuito, desde o começo, ou as influências de diferentes estilos aconteceram de uma forma natural?

Keith F. Faith – Eu não sei, éramos muito jovens quando fizemos "Tuatha Na Gael" e isso foi cinco anos antes de produzirmos o "The Midle Kingdom"; você consegue perceber claramente que estávamos escutando vários estilos diferentes de música na época do álbum. À medida que avançavamos, eu queria voltar cada vez mais ao material extremo, e estes elementos podem ser vistos em "The Morrigans Call", que foi quando Karen decidiu deixar a banda, o que possibilitou a vinda de novos elementos de Extreme Folk Metal – porém muito diferente do que as outras bandas estão fazendo. Há muitas bandas “felizes” de Folk Metal, e eu quis mostrar o lado obscuro da música Folk. Sou natural da Irlanda, então consigo provavelmente entender muito mais da música Folk do que muitas pessoas em uma banda de Folk Metal, e eu entendo que há muita tristeza e escuridão na música Folk também, não é música “feliz” sempre.

Polêmico Rock – Eu gostaria de parabenizar o Cruachan pelo álbum “Blood On The Black Robe”. Eu realmente adoro os outros álbuns, mas acho que este último merece uma atenção especial, pois é agressivo, melódico, com uma bela produção, a ainda tem o “formato” do Celtic/Folk Metal. O quão felizes estão os fãs com este novo álbum? Como eles estão os recebendo ao redor do mundo?

Keith F. Faith – Então, este álbum rendeu a melhor reação até agora, comparado aos trabalhos anteriores, e isso me deixa muito feliz. As resenhas – o qual você não deve sempre levar muito à sério – têm sido fantásticas. Porém! Este álbum é o nossa “Declaração de Intenção”, ou seja, um aviso para dizer que o melhor ainda estar por vir. O Folk Metal esta se tornando uma piada – uma paródia dela mesma, então eu quero ressuscitar o gênero, e fazer com que as pessoas levem à sério.

Polêmico Rock – Quais bandas influenciaram o Cruachan?

Keith F. Faith – Eu tento não associar nenhuma banda diretamente à nossa música, mas eu mencionaria Sckyclad, Horslips e Bathory.

Polêmico Rock – Deixe alguma mensagem para os fãs brasileiros.

Keith F. Faith – Hello meus amigos, nós pretendemos tocar aí e conhece-los! Nós vamos tocar materiais antigos e novos, e prometo não ficar muito bêbado antes do show!

Polêmico Rock – Hi, my pleasure be here interviewing one of pioneers of Celtic/Folk Metal. Are you exciting about the tour in Brazil?

Keith F. Faith - Yes, we are really looking forward to it. We have always wanted to play Brazil and other Latin American countries so for that to actually happen is a real dream for us. Due to many different factors we can not tour as much as other bands in the scene and as a result a lot of our fans around the world miss out on the chance to see us. Finally we can make it up to our Brazilian fans who have stuck with us all these years. We will give a great show for them and hopefully party with them too.

Polêmico Rock – Where it comes the inspiration for lyrics/themes, instrumental, and costumes?

Keith F. Faith - Growing up in Ireland we are immersed in our culture, it is all around us here - it is normal, well maybe not the costumes haha. The lyrical inspiration has always come from Irish history and mythology. I have sang a bit more about recent history on our latest albums but I will always have the mythological aspect in our lyrics aswell.

Polêmico Rock – Cruachan, started with influences of Black Metal. With the time, became one of the best Celtic/Folk Metal bands, but I still feel a lot of aggression on Cruachan`s vocals. So, can you tell me, how it happens?  It was the meaning, since the beginning, or the influences of different styles came in a natural way?

Keith F. Faith - I dont know, we were very young when we made "Tuatha Na Gael", it was 5 years later that "The Middle Kingdom" came out and you can clearly hear that we have been listening to different types of music on that album. As we progressed I always wanted to go back to the more extreme stuff and you can hear that return on The "Morrigans Call", when Karen decided to leave it opened the door for a major return to extreme Folk Metal - but also something different to what all the other bands are doing, there are too many happy folk metal bands and I wanted to show a darker side to folk music. Living in Ireland I understand folk music probably more that most people in a folk metal band and I understand that there is lot of darkness and sadness in folk music aswell, its not happy drinking songs all the time.

Polêmico Rock – I would like to congratulate you for “Blood On The Black Robe”. I love the other records, but I think that this last one deserve a special attention, because It`s very aggressive, melodic, with very good production, and It still has the good “shape” of a Celtic/Folk Metal. How happy the fans are with this new record? How are they receiving you around the world?

Keith F. Faith - Yes, it has received the greatest reaction out of all our releases and that makes me very happy. The reviews - which you should never take seriously anyway - have also been fantastic. But! I keep saying - that album is our "statement of intent" a warning that the best is yet to come. Folk Metal is becoming a joke - a parody of itself and I want to revive the genre and make people take it seriously.

Polêmico Rock – What bands have influenced Cruachan?

Keith F. Faith - I try not allow any bands directly influence the music but would mention Skyclad, Horslips and Bathory.
